Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint

During the nighttime hours of Saturday, June 23, and early morning hours of Sunday, June 24, town police plan to hold a sobriety checkpoint on an unspecified local road.

Every motorist traveling through the bidirectional checkpoint will be briefly stopped. Drivers will be interviewed to determine if they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. While stopped, drivers also may be checked for various other violations.

Seven police officers and a supervisor will be checking motorists.

Police said that grant money will cover 75 percent of the overtime costs stemming from the sobriety checkpoint.

The June 23–24 checkpoint is the first of three such sobriety checkpoints to be held this summer.
