Hawley Teacher Honored By Weller Foundation

Lea Attanasio, a teacher at Hawley Elementary School, was recently awarded the 2007 Weller Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of her project entitled, “Birthdays Around the World: Investigating Cultural Diversity” which was implemented in her fourth grade classroom.

The Weller Excellence in Teaching Award program was introduced to Newtown the Public School System in 1990. The award recognizes the teaching quality and innovation exhibited by classroom teachers of kindergarten through fifth grade. It is hoped that this honor will help encourage the teaching excellence that is so vital to our youth.

As recipient of this award, Mrs Attanasio was honored at the Weller Foundation’s Annual Awards Banquet held at the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University in May and presented with a $1,000 award and a Certificate of Honor.
