Police Plan Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint

On the night of Saturday, June 21, and early morning hours of Sunday, June 22, police plan a sobriety checkpoint for an unspecified roadway in town.

At that checkpoint, police will briefly stop each passing motorist to check whether they are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The checkpoint is intended to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities caused by drunken driving.

The police department recently received a federal grant approval that covers 75 percent of the police overtime costs stemming from the checkpoint.
