Newtown Middle School Athletes And Coaches Are Recognized
Newtown Middle School held its annual sports awards ceremony at Dickinson Park on Monday afternoon. Coaches and athletes were recognized at the event. Students were recognized for with Most Valuable Player, Most Improved and Coaches accolades. Two coaches were honored for their work with young athletes throughout the years.
Softball Coach Nelson Poulter and Girlsâ Basketball/Baseball Coach Bill Girard were recognized for their outstanding dedication with a plaque that will honor a male and female athlete each year who exemplify the sportsmanship and competitive spirit of the two coaches. Poulter, who has guided the softball team for 20 years, will continue to coach. Nelson is retiring after 40 years of coaching at various levels in town.
