Betty A. Bailey

Longtime Sandy Hook Resident

Betty A. Bailey, 85, of Cornwall Bridge, died June 12 at The Kent Specialty Care Facility. She was the wife of the late Donald R. Bailey of Sandy Hook. Mrs Bailey was born in Greenwich, July 20, 1922, a daughter of E. Allen and Helen (Lounsbury) Purdy.

She lived in Sandy Hook for 53 years and was employed at Curtis Box Corporation for 25 years before retiring and spending 14 years in New Hampshire. She then moved back to Connecticut to be closer to her family. She will be remembered for being a wonderful homemaker and loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by one son, Richard Bailey of Newtown; four daughters, Barbara Halstead of Sandy Hook, Nancy Kowalski and her husband, Tom, of Southbury, Susan Harris and her husband, Scott, of Cornwall Bridge, and Jean Calsada and her husband, Richard, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Mae Staudinger of Torrington; and eight grandchildren: Timothy Day and Alison Day of New Milford, Thomas Kowalski of Jersey City, N.J., Sarah Kowalski of Southbury, Karin Halstead, Krista Halstead, William Halstead, Jr, of Sandy Hook, and Matthew Calsada of Virginia Beach, Va. She was predeceased by her sisters, Myrtis, Irma, June, and Connie.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Gleeson Mortuary, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
