A New Leaf

Last Friday – when the Blue and Gold game was supposed to have been played – the Newtown Gridiron Club held an appreciation night for the NHS football coaching staff. Since the Nighthawks went to the CIAC Class L semi-finals in 2000, the atmosphere around the team has deteriorated and the NGC is looking to turn that around.

“It was a bad situation last year,” said head coach Ken Roberts, “but we’re turning it around. You can see it in the way the kids treat each other – with respect. We have more of a team here, a tight-knit group, and I can see nothing but good things ahead.”

Bob Pattison was presented with the EARN IT award (which stands for Effort, Attitude, Relentless, Nasty, Intensity and Toughness) for his work in spring practices. Dan Kearns and Andrew Rudolph were presented with Most Improved awards.
