Support Our Bus Drivers

To the Editor:

I was very disturbed by the legal notices placed in several area newspapers looking for bids from bus companies for Newtown schools.

It is starting with Art Bennett’s minibus routes, but I feel this is just the first step toward undermining and replacing the owner-operator system.

As a lifelong Newtown resident, I greatly appreciate our owner-operator school bus system and firmly believe we have the best bus transportation in the state because of our owner-operators. They are highly respected members of our community, and we trust them with our children. The job they do in bringing our children safely to and from school every day, like clockwork, is admirable. If you have any doubt about owner-operated busing, you have to go no further than to ask any parent in any neighboring town about their bus company.

We don’t want strangers bringing our children to school. Please, support our bus drivers.
