How Long in Newtown: I grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York, in the Shaungunk Mountain Valley, and I graduated from PACE University. My husband and I have lived in Newtown for eight years. Right now, weâre just about to move into a new home on Aspen Lane.
Â
Biggest Change You Have Seen in Town: I like the things that havenât changed. Like the fact that this is a town filled with people who care about each other. My family uses both the town pools, at Dickinson and at Treadwell parks, and Iâve met some wonderful people there.
Â
Family: My husband, Cliff Nicholson, is a native Newtowner, born and raised. He graduated with the Class of 1984 and is vice president and director of IT (Information Technology) at Brann Worldwide Advertising Company in Wilton. We have two children. Our daughter Kelsey, 4½, attends the Wesley Learning Center in Sandy Hook. Our son, Kyle, is 2.
Hobbies: I love making scrapbooks for each of the children using the Creative Memories materials. I try to fit two years into each scrapbook, and I sort the pictures by months. Itâs my âtherapy,â something I do after the children go to bed. By the time they are 18 and on their own ââ or maybe at their weddings ââ Iâll give them their books.
Â
Favorite TV Show: My daughter and I watch Home and Garden TV together and we love to comment on the colors. We like Trading Spaces, too. Itâs fun to watch them create disasters!
Organizations: We belong to the Newtown Congregational Church and I was on the Human Services Committee. I hope to resume that this fall.
Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: I love history and have fond memories of the holiday festival, of walking down Main Street at Christmastime and seeing the old houses, and of sitting in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, drinking tea, and watching the children play their instruments onstage. I also love the $2 movies.
Favorite Vacation Spot: My husband and I like to go skiing in Vermont. As a family, we go to the Jersey Shore to visit my parents, who are both teachers.
Â
Personal Philosophy: Enjoy each moment because you never get it back. I am so grateful for my children, and I try to enjoy them at each stage. Also, I try not to take anything for granted.
