Fraser-Woods School Honors Its Graduates

By Larissa Lytwyn

Fraser-Woods School’s 2003 graduates were recently honored in a ceremony that combined traditional pomp and circumstance with a unique, familylike intimacy.

After an introduction by the school Principal Myriam Woods, and remarks by several teachers, the Fraser-Woods School Chorus performed a rendition of, “We’re the Future of Tomorrow,” written by Patsy Ford Simms. The graduates, Jennifer Aguis, Giorgio Arcamon, Eliza Nance, and Alex Santilli, shared speeches about their experiences at Fraser-Woods and their hopes for the future. They later departed to the sound of “Drive,” by Incubus.

Fraser-Woods School, which serves student from preschool age through middle school, was founded in 1968 as Newtown Montessori School. It is affiliated with the American Montessori Society and accredited by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools. Italy’s first female physician, Dr Maria Montessori, founded Montessori education in 1907. Dr Montessori based her methodology on the concept of children’s innate desire to learn and sought to establish an environment conducive to this development.
