For The Love Of Reading

The second annual “For the Love of Reading” program wound up with more than 100 books donated to the C.H. Booth Library, well exceeding last year. The purpose of the program is to increase the library’s book collection that coordinates with the Newtown school curriculum.

The fundraising effort is sponsored by WIN, the library, and the Newtown School System. The idea was conceived last year by Linda Mayo Elsenhans, who co-chairs the event with Cyndy DaSilva. Last year’s project wound up with 72 books.

With the help of corporate sponsors, hundreds of dollars of books also were donated to the school libraries. Corporate sponsors included Bob Tendler Real Estate, the DaSilva law firm, The Homesteads at Newtown, Prudential Connecticut Real Estate, the Rubino family, and The Bee Publishing Company.

Book lovers were encouraged to donate $25 to purchase a book or other educational material for the library. Community groups, businesses, scout troops, parents, and others were invited to purchase a book related to their interests or to school curriculum. Superintendent of Schools Evan Pitkoff was the first person to donate a book this year.

For more information, call the library at 426-4533.
