Direct Vs Indirect Oil Painting At SCAN

Kita Macon will be painting a still life in oil at the next program-meeting of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, which is planned for Wednesday, June 25, at 1:30 pm. Ms Macon will be demonstrating the difference between the “direct” method of painting in oil and the indirect method (which involves glazing).

The meeting is open to the public and will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole).

Kita Macon’s method of painting has evolved after years of study and experimentation. She attended Scottsdale Art School and Art Students’ league of New York, and has studied with some of America’s fine artists such as Daniel Greene, Lajos Markos, Everett Kinstler, and Greg Kreutz.

Ms Macon is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, Pastel Society of America and Connecticut Pastel Society. Among the many awards she has won are two Grumbacher Gold medals and Best in Show by Oil Painters of America at their regional show in Cohasset, Mass.

An article written by Ms Macon describing her “indirect method” of painting in oil was published in American Artist Magazine in April 1997. The article was reprinted in 2002 in a special edition magazine, Color for the Oil Painter.
