Local students Tara Gaston and Andrew Harmata were two of 286 scholar leaders honored at The Connecticut Association of Schools for their academic achievement and service as well as their personal standards, accomplishments, and models for others with high levels of integrity, self-discipline, honesty, and courage. Amanda Lee Feuerberg, daughter of Robert and Sally Feuerberg of Newtown, graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in English. Miss Feuerberg received The Santo LaLomia Sound Prize for creative writing. She plans a career in publishing.

Max Sirkin, a resident of Southbury and formerly of Newtown, has been selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. He is a student at The Gunnery School in Washington, Conn.
Megan Elizabeth Gossling, daughter of Paul and Nancy Gossling of Riverside and formerly of Newtown, recently graduated from Colby magna cum laude. She was this yearâs recipient of the Condon Medal and is a 1998 gradate of Newtown High School.
Andrew Todd Gellert received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics cum laude from Harvard University. He is a 1998 graduate of Newtown High School. While at Harvard, Mr Gellert was captain of the menâs basketball team, 2002 Verizon Academic All-District I, College Insider.com National All Defensive Team, The Raymond Lavietes â36 Most Valuable Player Award, The Floyd S. Wilson Sportsmanship Award and All Ivy Academic Honors.
Ryan Matthew Todd of Newtown was named to the deanâs list at the University of Connecticut for the 2002 spring semester.
Jaclyn Shea, daughter of Vinny and Alida Shea of Sandy Hook, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Syracuse University. She was awarded a fellowship at the university to complete her masterâs degree in music education.
Newtown High School Guidance Counselor Jeff Tolson received an award from Union College for being an outstanding educator after graduating senior Raquefette Kilchevsky nominated him for his support, spirit, and dedication to the students. Mr Tolson is pictured with Raquefette, who will be attending Union College in the fall.
The following local residents graduated from Boston College recently: Michael J. Colgan of Newtown graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management; Matthew A. Kunkel of Newtown graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management; and Mary K. Rod of Newtown graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the College of Arts & Sciences.

Ingerman of Sandy Hook, a sophomore, is majoring in education and psychology; and Allison G. Lindquist of Sandy Hook is a graduating senior majoring in marketing and communications.
Christopher Carolan, son of Kevin and Dorothy Carolan of Sandy Hook, was named to the deanâs list for the spring 2002 semester at Saint Michaelâs College. Mr Carolan is a sophomore business administration major at Saint Michaelâs, and a graduate of Newtown High School.
Dan OâConnor, a graduate of Newtown High School, has been named to the deanâs list for the spring semester at The College of Wooster.
Two Newtown residents graduated from Wooster School in Danbury at ceremonies held on June 15. They received their diplomas from Headmaster John Cheeseman. Elyse L. Fleischmann, daughter of William and Sylvia Fleischmann, plans to attend Jacksonville University. Ian L. Schultz, son of Murray and Robin Schultz, will attend Hofstra University.
