Joseph Rosenberg of Newtown was named to dean’s list at Roger Williams University for the spring 2001 semester. Students completing 12 or more credits per semester and earning a quality grade point average of 3.4 are placed on the dean’s list.

Kelly Tschantz

Kelly J. Tschantz, daughter of Michell and Jeanne Tschantz of Sandy Hook, received a bachelor of arts degree in neuroscience, magna cum laude, from Colgate University May 20. Miss Tschantz has accepted a position as an analyst with Accenture (formerly Anderson Consulting) in the pharmaceutical and biotech market units in New York City.

Besty P. Earle of Newtown was named to the dean’s list at the University of Rhode Island for the spring 2001 semester.

Rachel Berliner of Newtown was selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Boston, Mass., from June 24 to July 3. The Forum is a career development program for high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and an interest in medicine.

Kenneth Oswald

Kenneth Oswald, son of Linda and Fred Oswald of Sandy Hook, graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Western New England College in Springfield, Mass., May 19. He is a 1997 graduate of Newtown High School.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute announced local students who achieved the spring 2001 dean’s list at the school. The following students were named: Susan L. Brier of Sandy Hook is studying management; Bernhard T. Klaus of Newtown is a mechanical engineering major; Richard DiDomizio is studying materials engineering; William R. Speirs of Newtown is studying information technology; and Amanda L. Torske of Sandy Hook is a chemical engineer major.

Kayleigh Beth Metviner of Newtown was awarded a certificate for her exceptional performance as a top scorer on the PLUS test in the CTY Talent Search 2001. The Celebration of Talent was held at Sacred Heart University on May 13. Kayleigh is the only fifth grader from Newtown selected to participate in a Johns Hopkins summer program being held at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.

Eric Everett Putnam of Newtown is a sophomore history major at Wake Forest University. He was recently named to the spring 2001 dean’s list at the university.

Two local residents received degrees from the University of Vermont May 20. Christopher J. Dudley received a bachelor of arts in English. Marc P. Nespoli received a degree for medical doctor.

Kirsten Carleton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Stephen E. Carleton of Sandy Hook, was among 259 seniors at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford to graduate at the school’s 111th commencement on June 2. Miss Carleton will be attending Amherst College in the fall.

Western Connecticut State University announced its students who graduated in May from the university. The local students who received undergraduate degrees are Paul E. Schweikert of Newtown with a degree in management; John H. Dotson of Newtown with a degree in English; William R. Armstrong of Newtown with a degree in finance; Jason E. Bremen of Newtown with a degree in graphic design; Michael C. Powers, Jr, of Sandy Hook with a degree in political science; Cherish L. Valente of Sandy Hook with a degree in art – graphic design; Sabrina M. Valente of Sandy Hook with a degree in art – studio art; Laura C. Mathison of Newtown with a degree in accounting; Charlotte P. Rahrig of Sandy Hook graduated cum laude with a degree in accounting; and William J. Pendergast of Sandy Hook earned a degree in justice and law administration.

Kayleigh Metviner

The following local residents received master’s degrees from WCSU: Timothy Stubbs of Newtown received a degree in instructional technology option; Deborah Zabretsky of Newtown earned a degree in health care; Cynthia M. Nash of Newtown received a degree in health care; Kathy D. Kean of Newtown earned a degree in school counseling option; and Paul E. Doniger received a degree in English.

William Joseph Drake, III, son of William and Helen Drake of Newtown, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University recently.

Jacob Putnicki

Jacob Putnicki of Newtown was awarded the Top Cadet of the Corps for the seventh grade at New York Military Academy. The award was based on overall leadership ability and academic achievement. Jacob was on the honor roll for all six marking periods; received the coach’s award for soccer; and was MVP for basketball.
