My Place Pizza entered the championship game of the Babe Ruth Softball U10 Division as the No. 1 seed – why not, the team went 12-1 during the regular season – but at Treadwell Park on Saturday night it was Dr Gellert Braces which was ready to put the bite on the title.

Dr Gellert pulled off a rousing, 9-2, upset win to capture the U10 championship.

The Braces team took control of the game by scoring three runs in the first inning. Elissa Robertson, Lauren Johnson, Theresa Viesto and Annemarie Davis all singled in the inning. Dr Gellert added two more runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth. The big hit in the fifth was a double off the bat of Robertson.

Pitchers Robertson and Adelle Cerreta combined to pick up the win for Dr Gellert.

Anne Hull doubled and Renata Villarreal stroked two hits to lead My Place, which received fine relief pitching from Jenna Legros (six strikeouts).

“It was just an off night for us.,” said My Place coach Al Legros, whose team entered the U10 playoffs as the heavy favorite after going 12-1 during the season.

Dr Gellert Braces players included Ashley Bolmer, Michelle Calladio-Nuzzo, Carolyn Gingras, Mary Kate Hubbard, Kendra O’Connor, Nancy Wilder, Adelle Cerreta, Annemarie Davis, Lauren Johnson, Catherine Kappauf, Elissa Robertson and Theresa Viesto.

My Place players included Beenish Ansari, Ann Hall, Danielle Petrella, Rebecca Reed, Samantha Ross, Renata Villarreal, Taylor Ansbro, Jenna Legros, Sara Lewis, Taylor Truchsess and Stephanie Villa.
