Benefit Tourney Was A Success

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Newtown Scholarship Association, I want to thank all the participants and sponsors who helped make the 2001 Jack Friel Memorial Scramble the success it was. This year the tournament was fully subscribed with 142 players and raised more scholarship money than any past tournament.

The success of this year’s fundraiser would not have been possible without the many generous contributions of area businesses, including Newtown Savings Bank, Union Savings Bank, Jeter Cook & Jepson, The Settle Agency, Merit Insurance, J.P. Maguire Associates, Curtis Packaging Corp., Beardsley Brown & Basset, Inc., Newtown Shopping Village, US Filter Co., Craig Jewelers, Guston & Ruane, World of Wine & Spirits, Poland Springs, Pepsi, Helmut’s BMW, and all our hole sponsors.

A fundraiser of this scale requires the hard work of many volunteers, but also depends in great measure on the financial support of community businesses. We are truly grateful to all our volunteers, both young and old and to the businesses who so generously supported this effort.

Sincerely,

Judith Holmes
