A memorial service for Merwin Brinsmaid Burr, Sr, who died March 10, in Dale, Texas, after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis, will take place Saturday, June 29, at 10:30 am, at Newbury Congregational Church, Brookfield. He was born June 29, 1937, in Monroe, to Mabel (Smith) and Merwin S. Burr.

Known as “Junior” to his older brothers and sisters, he attended Newtown High School, until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, in 1955.

His siblings Ruamy Burr of Newtown, Dorothy Boland of Seymour, John Burr, and his wife Wilma, of Boston, and Nancy Redente of Winter Haven, Fla.; his children, Debra Burr DiFronzo, Tammy Burr, Kelly Burr Giglio, and husband Bob, Merwin “Chip” Burr, Jr, and wife Tracy, Diane Bawlick Amuso, and husband Joe, and Susan Bawlick Pagan, and husband Ivan; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren survive Mr Burr. His wife, Gladys, whom he married January 15, 1983; his parents; and a brother, Howard, predeceased him.
