Josephine “Joan” Margaret Elliano Wheway, 82, beloved wife of the late Richard Wheway of Stratford, died peacefully June 17, in Monroe, with her family at her bedside. Born in Bridgeport August 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Belinski Elliano.

Survivors include her children and spouses John and Christine Wheway of Sandy Hook, Joseph Wheway, and Thomas and Paul Wheway, all of Stratford, Richard and Pat Wheway of Wilbraham, Mass., Alice and Joseph Fiorillo of Monroe, and Mary-Jo McCorry of Shelton; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter Christine Gardner, brother John Elliano, and sister Alice Robison.

Mrs Wheway retired from D.M. Reads, Macy’s, and American Frozen Foods.

A member of St James Church, she was a Eucharistic minister and member of the Resurrection Choir.

Friends are invited to attend her funeral, Friday, June 21, meeting at St James Church, 2110 Main Street, Stratford, at 10:30 am, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St John’s Cemetery, Moose Hill Road, Monroe. Calling hours will take place Thursday, June 20, from 4 to 8 pm, in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford.
