The phlebotomy course will begin on Tuesday, September 8, and run for 12 consecutive weeks with both morning and evening schedules. The course is open to anyone age 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED. Tuition includes CPR certification, a 40-hour externship, national certification, lab coat, and books.

Griffin’s 100th Birthday Party — open to all born at Griffin and the entire valley community — promises to be a fun-packed event. Free cake and ice cream, kids’ activities, musical entertainment and “behind the scenes” tours of such areas as the operating room, Childbirth Center, GI Suite, Health Resource Center and Griffin’s new laboratory are planned.

Children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animals for a checkup and to learn how to keep their teddy bears healthy. Those born at Griffin are invited to bring their baby pictures for staff to scan so that a graphic collage of hospital “alumni” can be created both for display and for hospital archives. Griffin is also looking for centenarians who will be given special recognition during the event.

Those unable to attend the June 27 open house who would like to learn more about the phlebotomy course should contact Tracy Huneke, CP, NPA, CHI, at 203-732-1276. Centenarians or anyone wishing to know more about any of the hospital’s centennial events can call the development office at 203-732-7504 or visit the website www.griffinhealth.org.
