On The Pitch — Soccer Scores

Girls

U8

Shooting Stars 2, Thundering Jaguars 0: For the Stars, Simone Paradis scored both goals. Jackie Seras and Katie Sailer secured the defense, while Molly Ma and Julia Sullivan played well offensively. For the Jaguars, Lindsay Merrifield and Emilia McGuinness Getzinger played well on offense, while Erin Walsh and Tess Hubbard had good overall games.

American Eagles 4, Monkees 1: Sophia Andrew scored for the Monkees and played strong offensively. Lauren Ankers and Natalie Schickendanz also played well. Abby Clark was strong in goal and Ashley Marron and Brooke Antous were solid on defense. Lauren Carrino and Rylee Mulligan each scored twice to lead the American Eagles. Rachel Tomasino added an assist and anchored the defense with her strong play. Brianna Lovely made several nice saves in goal and Grace Sholtes played a strong all-around game for the Eagles.

U10

Killer Tigers 1, Crushers 0: For the Crushers Claire Beiter and Madison Pirone played great on offense. Chloe Blackeman, Julia Doyle and Alexis Tucker were strong on defense and put up a good fight against the attackers. For the Killer Tigers, Emily Neave scored the lone goal, while Vicky Teixeira lit up the defense with her tenacious play. Strong Play in goal by Kayla Sippin and Kayla Kordish and hustle by Natalie Zimmerman and Ali Manfredi contributed to the win.

U12

Southbury 6, Newtown 1 (State Cup Final): In their biggest game of the season the Lightning lost their spark, suffering a punishing loss to Southbury that ended their undefeated streak as well as their hopes of capturing the State Cup title. Although they were able to keep the ball on their opponents’ side of the field for much of the first half, the Newtown girls were never able to gain the momentum necessary to take control of the game. Sarah Lynch scored the Lightning’s only goal. Megan Meyer and Siena Cicarelli showed solid play in the midfield throughout the contest and Emily Riley and Kate Fallon were tough in the box. 

Lightning 5, Monroe 1: The girls turned things around for their final game of the year with a decisive victory over Monroe. Sarah Lynch had two goals and an assist, and Raquel Crespo, Shelby Tolla, and Kailee Dunnigan each scored one. Jessica Keller played a strong all-around game and Dale Shearin had some strong moves on defense. Kate Fallon and Siena Cicarelli played well in the nets. The Lightning ended the season in first place in the Southwest District, with a record of 6-0-1 in division play and 11-1-1 overall.

U14

Twisters 4, Cyclones 2: For the Twisters, Bella Saraceni and Kerry Scallon both scored two goals.  Tonya Tucker and Anita Luxkaranayagam played strong defense and Lauren Sarna was solid in goal.  Tess Stofka played well at midfield. The Cyclones battled hard with goals scored by Geralyn Klein and Jane Sclafani. Zoe Brodsky pulled off some great saves in goal, and Haley Ryan worked tirelessly in midfield.

Boys

U10

Spider Pigs 4, Team One 0: For the Spider Pigs, Eugene Citrano and Sam Grossano each scored a goal and Connor Flint scored two. Eugene, Connor, Sam, Ryan Brello and Owen Samson also had shots on goal. CJ Shambelan played a great offensive game and had one assist. Owen Walsh and Christopher Russo played tough in goal with great saves. Chris Buckley and Bryan Morrissey played  great defensive games.

U12

 Newtown White Lightning 6, Fairfield 0: Jeremy Doski scored after he took a pass from Knute Johnson to make it 1-0. Nathyn Horvath had the next score off an assist by Raymond Xue for a 2-0 halftime lead. Michael Biancardi started the scoring in the second half off a pass from Sawyer Conrad. Doski then netted his second score (set up by Ryan King). Michael Cook followed with another score off a Carter Nordman pass. Daniel Hamula, starting as keeper, had the shutout but came out of net in the final few minutes and scored the final goal. Will Swain playing sweeper, worked with Patrick Rowley playing in the left fullback spot to dominate Fairfield shutting down any attacks. Ryan King and Knute Johnson controlled the midfield, setting up many of the scoring plays. Next up for the White Lightning is the season ending Newington Fathers day Tournament.

U14

Strikerz 4, Oskars 3: Ivan Hutchison and Mike Senf each scored a goal and Charlie Poarch scored twice to lead the Striker offense. Tom Cassin had a good game at midfield while John Narducci, Peter Mihok and Zach Pollock all played great defense. For the Oskars, Jake Locorotondo, Daniel Olzewski, Blake Untiedt, Fredrik Dean and Jeffrey Hoffman played well in the season finale, overcoming a 3-1 deficit to tie the game in the last five minutes.

Italian Stallions 4, Golden Toasters 2: Will Carr, Evan Swain, Patrick Haggerty and Nick Snyder each scored goals to lead the Stallions to victory. Justin Adsitt-Weiner and Tim Kelly played great in goal with Brandon Rodriguez and Anders Svensen playing overall great games. For the Tosters, Jake More and George Ferris both scored. Otto Kerler and Matt Wood were in goal. Niles Wilson and Franky Biancardi had strong games.

Cobras 1, Easton-Redding 0: The Cobras finished tied for second in the SWD A Division. There were numerous shots on goal from a contingent including Mergim Bajraliu, Noah Sock and Tyler Ruefenacht, as well as several header attempts from Colin Moller and Ian Solaski, but in the end only one goal came from a deep cross from Stephen Conway that somehow found its way into the net. The defense had the shutout behind a strong effort from keeper Sean Elliott who was assisted by Yossi Kohrman-Glaser. Matt Rahtelli had a standout game alternating between center mid and sweeper

Ridgefield 2, Cobras 1: The defense, led by Alec Lockhart, Francis Saraceni and Sam Langdon, shut the Ridgefield opponent out in the first half. The Cobras’ lone goal came early in the second half off a Stephen Conway corner kick to Rob Willis for the header finish. Pieter Martino and Nick Gerbo played well controlling tempo in the midfield while Ian Solaski, Mergim Bajraliu and Patrick Riccardi put pressure on the Ridgefield offense.
