Middle School Runners Shine At Championship Meet

At the recent league championship meet in New Fairfield, Newtown’s Middle School track and field participants had some impressive performances which included two league record-setting efforts.

Amy Anyoha broke her own shot-put record with a throw of 34-10 and Jenny Indelicato won the high jump and set a new record of 4-2.

The meet had an all-relay format, so all of the field events were in teams of two, and running events were in groups of four.

Top Newtown results are as follows:

Girls

High Jump: Jenny Indelicato, Erica Thill, first; Sara Sofko, Lydia Beiter, third.

Shot Put: Amy Anyoha and Grace Winans, second.

Hurdles: Elizabeth Helmig, Jess Oliger, third.

Long Jump: Jenny Indelicato, Lydia Beiter, third.

Discus: Amy Anyoha, Lydia Beiter, third; Dylana Coperine, Jenny Indelicato, sixth.

4x100: Sara Stofko, Lydia Beier, Elizabeth Helmig and Jenny Indelicato.

Boys

Discus: Bradley Fish, Jay Destories, third; Billy Begg and Andrew Cragin, sixth.

Hurdles: Robby Russo, Tom Giarrantano, fifth.

4x800: Joey Whelan, Nathan Kalra, Brenton Scott, Sam Coffey, fourth.

4x100: Tom Giarrantano, Nathan Kalra, Robby Russo, Sam Boland, fourth.
