Making A Difference Together
Making A Difference Together
To the Editor:
I want to thank everyone for making Kids For A Cure, the mini-relay for students in Sandy Hook, Hawley, Middle Gate, Head Oâ Meadow, and St Rose Elementary School and Reed Intermediate School, a huge success. Together the Kids For A Cure raised about $4,000.
Thanks to the youth participants and their parents who walked in the pouring rain. Thanks to the families who bought links for the Chain of Hope to honor their loved ones affected by cancer. Thanks to the many volunteers who just showed up to help at the cancer prevention and awareness stations and to the Fitness Loft for sponsoring an obstacle course, and to Michelle Zarifis for a stirring rendition of âThe Star Spangled Banner.â Lastly, a special thanks to the Kids For A Cure Committee: Karen Meisenheimer, Beth Groonell, Betsy Paynter, Elaine Lundquist, Linda Wiener, Chi Ryder, Lee Elkins, Nancy Sedensky, and Mary Radatovich.
I am honored to be the chair of Relay For Life next year and look forward to work with the community to increase awareness about cancer prevention, support survivors, and caregivers affected by cancer, and raise money for the American Cancer Society to continue important cancer research to find a cure. It is not too early to think about your role next year: join one of the organizational committees, be a team captain, join a team, buy a luminaria, or walk the track in solidarity with us to fight cancer. Together we can make a difference.
