Keeping Pets Safe

To the Editor:

Last Saturday we held our 24th annual Low Cost Anti-Rabies Clinic in Newtown. We vaccinated 23 cats and 84 dogs. This clinic was made possible by local veterinarian Dr Brian Silverlieb of Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals and his assistant, Mary Simpson — both of whom donated their time and service — my very special thanks to each of them.

I would also like to extend many thanks to the following volunteers from the Newtown Woman’s Club, who for the 17th year assisted at the clinic: Lorraine VanderWende, Marilyn Alexander, Carol Mattegat, Marie Sturdevant, Mary Antey, Sylvia Poulin, Ellyn Gehrett, and Marion Thompson. Special thanks also go to Canine Advocates volunteers  Mary Walton, Denise Jusasek, Sandra Raymond, and Amy Sullivan who donated their time to help with the animal control. Ann Benore and Monica Duhancik and Renee Weimann from the town clerk’s office were also on hand and issued the new 2009 dog licenses.

Thanks again to all who helped to make this annual clinic a success.

Sincerely,

Debbie A. Aurelia

Town Clerk
