Deep Commitment To Newtown

To the Editor:

Newtown Underwater Search & Rescue provides a unique emergency service. NUSAR is a completely volunteer corps dedicated to saving lives with services such as search and rescue deployment, swiftwater rescue, and ice rescue. NUSAR also assists law enforcement agencies with emergency underwater investigations, and recovery of weapons, vehicles, and bodies.

Just as our volunteer fire departments will assist neighboring towns when they need help, so too does NUSAR respond to emergencies beyond Newtown. To ensure the safety of our team members and stay ready to respond when called, NUSAR personnel train year-round. Did you know that it costs over $4,000 to equip and train one diver? But because only a small portion of our annual budget comes from town appropriations, we must raise the remainder ourselves. That’s why we’d like to thank all our neighbors and friends who have responded to our fund drive this spring. Rest assured that 100 percent of your contributions go directly to NUSAR.
