Creative Mailing Services Captures U10 Softball Title

Creative Mailing Services won the U10 softball championship with a 2-1 win over Newtown Hardware this week. The postseason tournament highlights are as follows:

Round 1:  My Dog Brand 8 DINA 7: For My Dog Brand, Haley Ryan and Emma Short pitched well.  Haley Ryan led  the offense with two hits, including a triple. Katie Reilly had two hits and Emma Short, Emma Davola, Claire Hull and Tegan Doherty had good games at the plate. For the DINA Hippos, Sydney Demartino and Kelly Merrick pitched well. Jillian Lasorsa had a strong game behind the plate. The Hippo offense was powered by Leah Hushion, Joanna Vadola, Kelly Merrick and Lindsey Gallagher.

Semifinals: Creative Mailing Services 10, My Dog Brand 9: With a come from behind victory, Creative Mailing Services advanced to the championship game. Creative Mailing bounced back from a seven-run deficit with five runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth. The Creative Mailing Pink Penguins were led by Kelsey Nicholson and Katie Laaksonen with three hits and three runs scored each.  In a thrilling finish, Creative Mailing scored the tying and go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth with two outs as Christina Moore drove in Katie Laaksonen and Cassidy Keller drove in Emily Bell.  Madeline Meier and Emily Bell pitched well and each had two hits. My Dog Brand Chili Peppers were led offensively by Katie Reilly with three hits including a homerun, Sydney Flint with three hits and Claire Hull, Emma Maki, Tegan Doherty and Emma Davola with two hits apiece. Natalie Shaker and Grace Erney each had RBIs and Haley Ryan and Katie Reilly pitched well. Katherine Mickewich and Robin Rockwell were solid on defense. 

Semifinals:  Newtown Hardware 3 Newtown Pools LLC 1: Good pitching and defense on both sides contributed to a low-scoring affair and came down to the wire with the tying runs on base in the top of the sixth inning. For the Newtown Hardware Yellow Peeps, Nikki Alexander reached base twice and scored two runs. Jillian Gibney had two hits and Annie Hoffman singled and scored a run. Ashley Gong had the big hit with a clutch two-out two-run double to give the Peeps the lead in the third inning. Bridget Duero and Caitlyn Linden did a tremendous job, pitching three innings each. Defensively, Isabella Luciano, Lexi Tucker played well. For the Newtown Pools Polar Bears, Victoria Clarke and Lauren Wilcox both pitched well. Stefanie Carr drove in a run and Sarah Spillane, Emily Dirga and Hannah Marks played well in the infield.

Championship Game: Creative Mailing Services 2, Newtown Hardware 1: The Creative Mailing Pink Penguins overcame a late rally to hold on and take home the U10 championship. Madeline Meier, Emily Bell and Katie Laaksonen combined for a superb pitching effort. Meier and Laaksonen had timely hits in the fourth inning to drive in Chloe Kasak and Emily Bell giving the Pink Penguins all the scoring they needed. The strong defense kept Newtown Hardware from scoring during the remainder of the game. Cassidy Keller, Kelsey Nicholson and Elizabeth Calabrese played well in the field. For the Newtown Hardware Yellow Peeps, Caitlyn Linden was on base three times and knocked in the only run with a triple in the fourth inning, scoring Lauren Villamana who had singled. Avery Tananbaum, Michaela Jackman, Ashley Gong and Nikki Alexander all had base hits. Bridget Duero pitched three scoreless innings and Caitlyn Linden also pitched well. Jillian Gibney and Annie Hoffman both had fine defensive games.
