Children’s Adventure Center

Turns 40

To the Editor:

The Children’s Adventure Center preschool (CAC) has arrived at a wonderful milestone and we are happily celebrating our 40th Anniversary.

In 1969, when community and government leaders in Newtown gathered to discuss the growing need for preschool services in town, especially for parents in need — single parents and working parents — the overwhelming consensus was that there certainly was a growing need.

While 1960 was an interesting year in Newtown, as well as the world, as CAC enrolled our first children — the Concorde made its first flight; Joe Namath and the Jets won the Super Bowl; Apollo 11 carried the first men to walk on the moon; there was a little festival going on in “Woodstock” and “Aquarius” and “Let the Sun Shine In” were popular songs; Midnight Cowboy was the movie that won the Oscar; and the Boy Scouts of America allowed girls in its Explorer group. And along came the Children’s Adventure Center.

CAC will be celebrating our anniversary with a number of activities, including a picnic on Friday, June 19, from 4 to 6 pm, at the center, together with our first Children’s Art Show. Former students and staff are invited to attend any and all of our events or just to visit the center. Everyone is especially invited to come and pick up their anniversary keepsake any time that is convenient for them — the center is still open from 7 am to 6 pm and as always, fully state certified and NAEYC accredited.

Forty years is a wonderful milestone and it is our pleasure to invite our community to come and share the success of our program.

Sincerely yours,

Rose Luizzi, Director
