SECOND ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE ON JEWELRY NYC, OCTOBER 6 & 7

NEW YORK CITY — Adornment, The Magazine of Jewelry and Related Arts has announced it will hold its second annual fall Conference on Jewelry and Related Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology, October 6–7, Columbus Day weekend.

The theme of this year’s conference will be “A Place in Time: Jewelry within the Context of the Decorative Arts.” The conference will examine personal ornament as a decorative art form similar in many respects to hollowware, ceramics, textiles, glass and furniture. Speakers will address the ideology, inspirational sources, motifs and techniques common to jewelry and its sister arts.

Speakers at the two-day conference will include: Ulysses Grant Dietz, curator of decorative arts, Newark Museum, keynote speaker: “Putting Jewelry in Its Place: Reclaiming Jewelry for the Decorative Arts”; Yvonne Markowitz, Rita J. Kaplan and Susan B. Kaplan curator of jewelry, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, “Then and Now: Egyptian Revival in Jewelry and the Decorative Arts”; and Elyse Zorn Karlin, author and publisher of Adornment, “The Historic Use of the Medusa Image in Jewelry and the Decorative Arts”; and many others.
