A Fifth Grade Celebration

The end of the school year is here. It has been a very busy and exciting few weeks for the Middle Gate School fifth graders.

On June 5th, parents, family, teachers and staff helped them celebrate their accomplishments at the Fifth Grade celebration. The event at the Fireside Inn was wonderful and well worth all of the planning and hard work. We’d like to thank the committee members for their time and effort: Sue Aiello, Patti Barrett, Gregg Ciarelli, Ann De La Vega, Rose & Bop DeSimone, Mara Griffiths, Evelyn Hufziger, Tracey McManus, Michele Parker, Maria Ross, and Paula Toi. In addition, we received tremendous support from the fifth grade teachers – Mr Christopher Breyan, Ms Maria Corti, Mrs Jill Kuruc, Mrs Lora Sevarino and Mrs Georgia Smith. We’d also like to thank Mrs Laura Cooper for volunteering to be mistress of ceremonies and Mrs Judy Gallo, Mrs Pamela Fagan, Mrs Barbara Jagoe, Mrs Debbie Malin, and Miss Deidre Dougherty for their moving speeches, which touched everyone in the room. The event was a huge success because of the continued cooperation and generosity of the Fireside Inn, Big Y, Stop & Shop, Lexington Gardens, Newtown Country Mill, the Middle Gate PTA, the fourth grade parent bakers, and the Middle Gate staff.

On Wednesday, June 20th, the fifth grade classes gathered for one last time to enjoy a pizza lunch, kickball game, and a visit from the ice cream truck. We’d like to thank My Place Restaurant, Blue Sky Ice Cream, the Middle Gate PTA, and all of the fifth grade teachers and room parents for making this special afternoon so much fun.

It has been an honor to work with everyone. We hope these wonderful traditions continue. The pride and joy on the children’s faces makes it all worthwhile. These are the great memories of childhood for our children. With sadness, we say goodbye and thank you to the 94 Middle Gate fifth graders and their families. With happiness, we say congratulations and good luck in middle school.
