Track Team Members Stand Out

The track and field season continued for some members of Newtown High School’s squad in mid-June postseason meets. Lauren Russo competed in the pole vault event at the New England championships in Saco, Maine, on June 13, and recorded a personal record jump of 10-foot-3.

Several Nighthawks participated in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Decathlon & Heptathlon Championship, at Willowbrook Park in New Britain, June 16 and 17.

Christopher Gamble set a school record and finished in second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase event, with a time of 9:54.90. Cole Terry was ninth in the decathlon, scoring 5,051 points. His effort included a tie for fifth place in the high jump event, with a leap of 5-foot-8.

Joel Duval was 29th in the 3000 steeplechase in a time of 11:11.38; Josh Bent was 37th in the 2000 steeplechase in 7:48.00; David Csordas was 36th in the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:36.08; and Brendon Reeds was 30th in the 3000 steeplechase in 11:13.26.
