Pauline “Babe” Williams, 94, a resident of Newtown and formerly of Bridgeport, died peacefully, June 6. She was born November 28, 1918, on Thanksgiving Day, in Scranton, Penn., a daughter of Pauline (Schmidt) and Edward Nicholas.

Mrs Williams was a member of the synchronized swim team the Aquamaids, and competed with them around the country. She worked in retail for many years at Gimbels. She was a seamstress professionally, as well as for her family, crafting wedding gowns and Halloween costumes.

She was a volunteer at the Newtown Congregational Church and was a member of the Women’s Circle of Faith. She also volunteered at the Cornerstone Store regularly. An avid bowler, she played in leagues with Arlene Williams — winning several trophies. Pauline loved nature and was an avid bird watcher.

Her daughter Joan Carroll and sons Frank and Richard; son-in-law Thomas Carroll; daughters-in-law Carmen and Debra Williams, and Arlene Williams; sister Jewel Newcomer; seven grandchildren; as well as six great-grandchildren survive Mrs Williams. Her husband David “Stick” Williams, baby son Howard, brothers Edward and Howard, and sisters Dorothy Coffey and Katherine Rose predeceased her.

A Memorial Service will take place Sunday, June 23, at 2 pm, at the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown.

The Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, is serving the family.
