Summer Sounds Concert Series Continues Tuesday

Ashlar of Newtown has begun its 18th Annual Summer Sounds Concert Series, which presents free concerts on Tuesday evenings during the summer. Residents of Ashlar, its assisted living facility Lockwood Lodge, are all welcome to the free performances in the courtyard of Ashlar/Lockwood at 139 Toddy Hill Road.

Concerts begin at 7 pm, and are cancelled in the event of rain.

The next concert in the series will be on June 22 when The Galvanized Jazz Band returns with a performance of Dixieland style music.

Concerts will continue on July 6 with The Golden Angels Band, old-time jazz favorites; July 20, The Housatonic River Band, with ragtime and jazz favorites; August 3, The Jackson Pike Skifflers, folk and mountain music; and August 17, The Frank Porto Band, music from the 1930s and 40s.

Admission is free for all concerts. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

In addition to its concert series, Ashlar will present its annual Classic Car Show & Sock Hop on Saturday, September 18. An ongoing show by members of The Classic Nights Car Club, the event will run from 11 am to 2 pm. Lunch and soft drinks will be available for purchase, and DJ Mark Edwards will be playing some of the favorite songs of the 1950s.
