Lions Honor Bob Tynan As Melvin Jones Winner

At the last meeting of the year of the Newtown Lions Club, Bob Tynan was selected as the winner of the Melvin Jones award.

Lions President Paul Arneth, in bestowing the award, remarked that the Melvin Jones award is the highest honor that can be given to a member of the Lions Club. The award is named after the founder of the Lions Club movement.

The award is given to a Lion who provides exceptional service to his or her club and community over a long period of time. This award is unique in that the other Melvin Jones winners in the club select the winner.

Mr Tynan has been a member of the Newtown Lions Club since 1971. He is a past president and has been a vigorous, reliable member for all those years. Mr Tynan was in charge of eyeglass collections for more than 20 years. For that and his previous work he has already been given the Knights of the Blind award. The latest award is to honor a truly remarkable career in support of the work of the Newtown Lions Club. Mr Tynan was presented with a plaque to honor the occasion.
