Free Wellness Workshop

“I Will Be Well,” a free health and wellness workshop for community members over the age of 40, will be held at 7:30 pm on Monday, June 24, in St Rose School’s Monsignor Conroy Room, 42 Church Hill Road.

The workshop will focus on decreasing the risk of osteoporosis, vascular disease, and stroke through increasing awareness of risk factors, warning signs, and screening opportunities. The workshop will be hosted by St Rose Parish Nurse Ministry and presented by Doreen Palmer, a registered nurse of Life Line Screening. Ms Palmer has been a nurse in Connecticut for more than 34 years.

The Life Line screening will be held on Monday, July 29, from 9 am to 4 pm, in the St Rose school.  Four separate screenings can be done in ten minutes. They include a carotid artery/stroke screening that shows the buildup of fatty plaque in the carotid arteries in the neck, a condition that can lead to a stroke. Each non-invasive, completely painless screening takes about 10 minutes.

The abdominal aortic aneurysm screening would show the existence of an enlargement in the abdominal aorta that could lead to a ruptured aortic artery.

The third screening is for peripheral arterial disease in the lower extremities. This screening also indicates if there is a high risk of coronary artery disease.

The osteoporosis screening identifies abnormal bone mass density.

Teach screening is $40 ($35 for osteoporosis). Discount packages are available.

Preregistration is required. Call 800-407-4557. Medicare does not cover this cost and Life Line does not file insurance claims. Those who participate should check with their insurance agent to see if the procedures are covered.
