Destiny Jean (Mengold) Whitcher, 76, of Monroe, died of a lengthy illness on June 12 in her home.
Loving wife to the late Richard M. Whitcher, she was born in New York City and was a lifelong resident of Monroe.
She is survived by one daughter, Destiny Ann (Whitcher) Mosher of Newtown, and three sons, Thomas Whitcher and his wife, Alice, of Sandy Hook, Richard Whitcher and his wife, Catherene, of Lowville, N.Y., and Harry Whitcher and his wife, Jan, of Monroe; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, George and his wife, Agnes; and a sister-in-law Helen Mengold. She was predeceased by a brother, Walter Mengold.
She was very active in her community as a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, member of the Monroe Congregational Church, Lady Martha #103 Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile of the Trumbull Temple, Morning Circle and Flower Chairman of the Congregational Church of Monroe, Berkshire Travelers Good Sam Camping Group, and the NCT Camping Group.
A prayer service was officiated by the Rev Peter Allen of the Monroe Congregational Church on June 15 in the Lesko-Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street (Route 25) in Monroe. Additional services will be held privately at her familyâs convenience.
