Alfred         Killing

Alfred Killing, 87, husband of Avis (Fisher) Killing of Deland, Fla., formerly of Newtown, died June 16 while on a Caribbean cruise.

Mr Killing was born in Soligen, Germany, on June 15, 1915, a son of the late Ernest and Anna (Shallbruck) Killing. A resident of the United States since age 7, he was raised in Bridgeport. From 1948 until his retirement in 1976, Mr Killing was a resident of Newtown and was a prominent building contractor. Following retirement, he maintained homes in Ludlow, Vt., and Deland, Fla.

Mr Killing was a former member of the Newtown Kiwanis Club, Newtown Civil Defense, and Granite Ledge Archery Club. An accomplished artist, he was a member of the West Volusia Artist Club and the Deland Country Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Richard “Fuzzy” Simon of Newtown, Alfred M. Killing of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Robert E. Killing, Sr, of Woodbury; one grandson; five granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Gerald Killing, and by a grandson, Robert Killing, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21, at 11 am in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Interment will be in St Rose Cemetery.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, June 20, from 7 to 9 pm.
