NEWINGTON - The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) crowned several different winners of State Open Cup championships on Sunday, June 3, at Newington High School and a bunch of Newtown players figured prominently in all of that.
NEWINGTON â The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) crowned several different winners of State Open Cup championships on Sunday, June 3, at Newington High School and a bunch of Newtown players figured prominently in all of that.
With Open Cup championships, the teams earned automatic bids to represent Connecticut at the United States Youth Soccer Association Region I tournament in Niagara Falls, New York, which will be held from Saturday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 3.
+ For the Yankee United Football Club (Girls U12), which defeated CFC Arsenal, 2-0, there were five Newtown athletes who played a part in that â Kristi Nowak, Kyla Miles, Maggie DeMarco, Nicole Sieber and Rachel Perretta. Yankee United ran its spring record to 17-2-2 and its overall 2000-01 record to 40-9-5.
+ For the Manchester Premier (Boys U17), Matt Pachniuk starred in goal.Pachniuk was the starting goaltender, too, for the Newtown_High School boysâ soccer team under coach Brian Neumeyer.
+ For the Yankee United Pride (Girls U15), Chelsea Morin, a Newtown High School freshman who scored 10 goals in her first season with the Nighthawks, was one of the leading offensive players.
+ For Wilton Beachside S.A. (Boys U16), four Newtown athletes played a part in leading the team â Jake Rouse, Mike Troy, Derek Miles and Ryan Tracy. Troy and Tracy were both leading offensive players for the Newtown High School boysâ soccer team last fall.
