Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint
For This Weekend
On the night of Friday, June 17, and early morning hours of Saturday, June 18, police plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint to take drunken drivers off the roads.
Police did not disclose the location of the checkpoint.
Police conduct such high-visibility checkpoints to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries that occur due to drunken driving. Police publicize such DUI enforcement projects to deter drunken driving by motorists.
All motorists who drive through the checkpoint in both directions will be stopped and briefly interviewed to find the people who are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said.
The Federal Highway Safety Program provides grant money to the town to cover 75 percent of costs for sobriety checkpoints.
