Organic Farmers’ Marker Returning This Month

The Sandy Hook Organic Farmers’ Market at Fairfield Hills will be opening for its 2011 season on Tuesday, June 28, from 2 to 6 pm. The market will again run through October, according to Market Master Mary Fellows. It is set up within the Fairfield Hills campus, on Washington Square.

This year marks the ninth years for the market, “a long way from the grassy field behind St John’s Church, our home for the first seven years,” said Ms Fellows.

“We look forward to seeing some familiar faces like Shortts Farm & Garden, a nine-year veteran; Waldingfield Farm, a six-year veteran; and Middlebrook Farm & Orchard, five-year veterans,” she continued “We will also have once again Ronnie’s Bread, wonderful wood bowls from Mike Agius, pies and other baked goods from Lollie at The Whistle Stop Café, and Rose Garbian’s Bittersweet Ridge soaps, herbs and wool.”

Newcomers to the market this year are The R Bar company and its raw food bars, Grayledge Farm with free range meats and local cheese, Rowanwood Farm offering soaps and fiber, and Billy & Kate’s Lemonade & Tea.

The farmers’ market will also offer monthly entertainment and guest speakers.

The market has a Facebook page, The Sandy Hook Organic Farmers Market At Fairfield Hills. Additional information is also available from Ms Fellows, who can be reached at 203-313-9908.
