Ladies Day
A battle for the best was provided in Thursdayâs morning Ladies Day competition, with the format being Best Ball; every golfer for themselves. Fighting to the top was Debby Tendler followed by Sarah Cappelli in second place.
Menâs Night
As usual, Thursday Nightâs Menâs League had a good showing, and even better competition. First place was awarded to Lou Rosamilia for the second straight week. Second place was earned by Michael Portnoy, and closing the pack was John Gschwind in third.
Parent/Child
With the weather finally cooperating, Rock Ridge was able to resume its weekly family tournament, the Parent/Child event. The competition was fierce, coming down to a scorecard playoff to determine the winner. Edging out Art Fuller and his son Casey Fuller was Frank and Thomas Gavel, shooting a 36.
NHS Hawk Cup
This year, Rock Ridge Country Club professional Bill Flood took on the coaching responsibility of Newtown High Schoolâs golf team. With the help of his Assistant Coach, Justin Sigette, they were able to have a winning record of 9-7 overall (7-4 in the South-West Conference), and have one player, Abbey Doski make it to the state championships. As a thank you for the great year, Rock Ridge hosted a 9-hole tournament. Season Long Achievement Awards were given at the end of the day to Brian LeBlanc for MVP, Abbey Doski for Team Player, and Chris Erickson for Rookie of the year. The seniors were also recognized for their hard work and wonderful time spent as part of the NHS golf team. Seniors included, Christian Gregoire, Nick Wright, and Sean Maher.
Ladies Day With The Pro
The heat and humidity were no match for the intensity on the golf course for Ladies Play with the Pro. A 9 hole competition, Assistant Professionals Justin Sigette and Sonny Grosso paired with their respective groups. Winners with a net 31, were Karen Alexander, Sarah Cappelli, and Kay Kien, along with Grosso. Pam Campbell, Wendy Fuller, Jayne Dubraski, and Sigette finished runner up.
Menâs Member/Guest
A small but lively crowd made its way to Rock Ridge for the second One Day Member/Guest competition. The weather held off and once again, the competition came down to a few strokes. Bill Gillotti and his guest Joe Sparveri took low gross honors with a 77, beating the field by four strokes. The competition was much closer for the low net category. Mike Navin and his guest Bill Mok, shot a 62 for the win. Runner up was Lou Rosamilia and his guest Julie Cochran with a 63.
