Edward âTedâ Haviland Petit III, 50, of Newtown, died unexpectedly June 10, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife Kristen (Cocco); children Jemma, 10, Mae, 8, Edward âTeddyâ Haviland IV, 7, and Andrew, 5; his parents Jane and Edward H. Petit of Scituate, Mass.; sisters Elizabeth of New York and Brianne of Marblehead, Mass.; brother James of Somerville, Mass.; in-laws Kathleen and Phillip Cocco of Marshfield, Mass.; brothers and sister in-laws Phillip, James, and Jen, and Liza Cocco; and aunts, nieces, numerous cousins, and countless friends.Â
Born in Boston, Mr Petit was raised in Scituate, Mass., where he attended Scituate High School and was active in varsity football and Boy Scouts, ultimately earning the rank Eagle Scout. He graduated from Babson College and continued his education at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where he graduated with an MBA, concentration in finance.
 He had a long career in the financial industry and over the years worked at Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, and A. Webster Dougherty; finally establishing himself as the manager, business development, at a hedge fund where he had his greatest professional success, substantially increasing the assets under management and raising the profile of the firm in the industry. He was a frequent speaker and panelist at industry conferences, and is well known throughout the financial community.Â
Mr Petit had a great love of life: music, sailing, sports, following his beloved Tar Heels, and enjoying summers in Maine. He will always be remembered for his loyalty, steadfastness, and a man devoted to his family.
Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday June 16, in St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, from 2 to 4 pm, and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 17, at 11 am, in St Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be private.
