Kristen Errico pitched well, limiting Karenâs to just one run over the final three innings. Emily Dutt ran the bases hard and fueled a five-run second inning that propelled Phonebook. For Karenâs, Morgan DâAvola, Meriah Tani and Samantha Moore all had strong performances.
Meanwhile, Christine Beck doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Maxx Zimmer had a bunt single and big two-run single to lead My Place Pizza to a 9-7 win over Bob Tendler Real Estate in the U14 division championship game.
Alex Caraccillo played well on defense for My Place. For Tendler, Ashley Rosse and Alyssa Robinson pitched well while Erin Fish sparked the offense with a bases-clearing double. Marley Koschel had a fine day on the base paths.

Newtown Hawks 7, Southbury Sparks 6 â Annie Grills singled in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Newtown Hawks to a win in their home opener. Sarah Greenfield singled, doubled and drove in four runs as Kaity Herwig and Jenna Van Waalwijk also had two hits each as Lisa Alberico, Ally Kirk, Annie Grills, and Sophie Cerreta all singled. On the mound, Amanda Schiffer and Mariale Renna combined for 13 strikeouts with Renna pitching the final six innings in relief. Jaclyn Van Waalwijk and Nicole Alberico sparked the outfield defense as Ali Legros and Kate Kelleher contributed seven putouts at first base.

Newtown Hawks 16, Bethel 4 â Kate Bowen struck out 14 batters in five innings of work as the Hawks defeated Bethel, 16-4, in the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League opener. Nicole Elias was 3-for-3 with four RBI as Amanda Nealy, Rachael Ruiz and Bowen banged out two hits apiece (Nealy with a double and Bowen with a home run). Ashley Kuligowski, Kelly Burton and Sarah Ferris each collected single. The Hawks will be competing in the FCFSL as well as the Central Valley Fastpitch League (CVFL) and will host the Connecticut Babe Ruth U12 state tournament on the weekend of July 9.

Creative Mailing 11, Burton Builders 3 â Shannon Barra and Kelsey VonDerLinn played well defensively at second base to lead Creative Mailing over Burton Builders. Offensively, Megan Gibbons ripped an RBI single while Jessica Fossum scored 2 runs. For Burton Builders, Natalie Dunn, Colleen Cunningham and Kelly Burton ripped singles to spark the offense.
Creative Mailing 9, Burton Builders 8 â Amanda Nealy went 3-for-4 and knocked in the winning run as Creative Mailing squeaked by Burton Builders. Devon Miles and Brittany Soucar each ripped singles for Creative Mailing. For Burton Builders, Caitlin Cocivi banged a single while Taylor Johnson and Megan Rockwell each scored runs. Hannah Basch-Gould pitched well.
Karenâs Fitness 14, LRM Landscaping 12 â Morgan DâAvola collected four hits while Michelle Margait sparked the defense for Karenâs. For LRM, Sarah Pettinelli had a single and a double while Courtney Amaral had a two-run double and Tracy Dunn had a two-run single.
Blue Bananas 16, Red Crew 6 (All Star Game) â Kathy Townsendâs two-run double, along with timely hitting from Lindsay McCoy and Samantha Defilippe, sparked the offense and led the Bananas. Marissa Saravis, Katie Adams, Kaitlyn Kakadeles and Kristen Errico combined to pitch a great game. For the Red, Stephanie Arndt and Erin Kramer had the big bats while Alyssa Buda and Morgan DâAvola played well in the field.

Ferris Mulch versus JP Maguire â Julia Frattaroli pitched well and made six outs in the field to lead Ferris. Olivia Ingham, Emma DâAvola and Haley Trudell played well. For Maguire, Kelsea Morshuk and Samantha Chanko were very consistent on the mound as Emily Clark and Brittany Pearson played well.
