Baseball Academies Being Offered This Summer
Matt Memoli, Newtown High School’s baseball coach, will hold three weeks of summer baseball camps this year. The cost for each camp is $200 and they all will be held at the Newtown High baseball field. Youth Baseball Academy: Players 6-11 years old will receive an intense workout and will learn the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running. Players will also take part in instructional and live games each day. The camp provides an always active approach. The player to coach ratio is a maximum of six players for every instructor. Sessions are offered June 22-26 and July 6-10, from 9 am to noon. Activity #409625.
Middle School Academy: This program is designed specifically for the middle school baseball player (ages 12-14) to develop the skills necessary to perform at the next level. Players will learn hitting, fielding, and base running fundamentals from NHS and area high school/college coaches. Players will also receive position specific work and instruction, along with learning the importance of confidence in baseball. Sessions are offered June 22-26 and July 6-10, from 9 am to noon. Rookie Baseball Academy: This academy is designed specifically for the youth player (ages 5 and 6) who is just beginning his or her baseball career. There will be a focus on the proper mechanics involved in hitting, fielding both ground and fly balls, and throwing. Players also will be taught what it means to be a great teammate and demonstrate sportsmanship on the baseball field. All ability levels are welcome. Session is offered July 13-17, from 9 to 11 am.
