WSO Announces 2006-07 Season

WATERBURY —  Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) and Music Director and Conductor Leif Bjaland have announced the programs for the orchestra’s 2006-07 subscription series.

Concerts will feature distinguished artists such as world-renowned pianist Cecile Licad and the Irish music sensation Cherish the Ladies. Programs will include:

*Saturday, September 23, 8 pm, at Naugatuck Valley Community College Fine Arts Center (NVCC), 750 Chase Parkway, with guest violin soloist Philippe Quint. The program will feature Tchaikovsky’s A Suite of Suites, Glazunov’s Violin Concerto, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No 5.

Members of Connecticut Accordion Association will join WSO in the Tchaikovsky performance.

A free post-concert reception will be held for the audience in the atrium lobby and will include a performance by members of Connecticut Accordion Association.

*Saturday, October 21, 8 pm, at Palace Theatre, 100 East Main Street, “Classical Mystery Tour — A Symphonic Tribute to the Beatles.”

The program will include timeless Beatles classics such as “Yesterday,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Hey Jude” and “All You Need Is Love,” and will feature members of the Broadway sensation Beatlemania, who will perform with Waterbury Symphony Orchestra.

*Sunday, November 19, 3 pm, at NVCC Fine Arts Center, “All Beethoven” with piano soloist Cecile Licad.

 The program will feature Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Symphony No. 3.

*Sunday, January 14, 2007, 3 pm, at NVCC Fine Arts Center, with oboe d’amore solist Olav Van Hezewijk.

The program will feature Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, Bach’s Concerto for Oboe d’amore, and Brahms’s Symphony No 1.

*Saturday, March 3, 2007, 8 pm, at Palace Theatre, with Cherish the Ladies.

*Saturday, May 12, 2007, 8 pm, NVCC Fine Arts Center, with piano soloist Gleb Ivanov. The program will feature Higdon’s Shine, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.

There are varied subscription ticket options:

*Series A includes all six concerts, with prices ranging from $72 to $223 if purchased before July 1 ($80 to $248 after July 1).

  *Series B includes four Saturday evening concerts (September, October, March and May), with prices ranging from $54 to $177 before July 1 ($60 to$196 after).

  *Series C includes four concerts at NVCC, with prices ranging from $46 to $123 before July 1 ($51 to $136 after).

  *A Flex Package includes three vouchers for best available seating, which can be used to bring guests to one concert or for one person to attend three different ones.  The Flex Package is $80 before July 1 ($90 after).

  *Single tickets will also be available for sale beginning on August 15.
