Solo Show Of Plein Aire

Paintings To Inaugurate New Gallery

KENT — Gregory James Gallery will celebrate the opening of its new gallery in Kent with a solo show of new works by artist Christopher M. Magadini, which will run from Saturday, June 24, through Monday, July 31. Mr Magadini will attend the opening reception at the gallery, at 25 North Main Street, from 4 to 6 pm on Saturday, June 24.

A prominent plein aire artist who favors the Connecticut countryside, Mr Magadini is well respected for his landscapes, harbor scenes, Hudson River views, town genre, still life and figure paintings. More than 20 oil paintings will be featured, including scenes from Kent and surrounding areas.

Mr Magadini has devoted himself to plein aire painting for the past 15 years. He is a member of New England Plein Air Painters and is an invited teacher of plein air painting at Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme. He was one of ten painters who were invited to Forbes Chateau in Balleroy, France, in 2004, which culminated in a show last year at the Forbes Foundation in New York City.

Mr Magadini’s style could be called contemporary impressionism, although the pastoral quality of his work recall the naturalism of 19th Century American landscape painting.

“Every part of a painting contributes to the feeling it inspires in the viewer. The sense of depth, light and form are illusions. The lines, shapes, colors and the paint itself are real. All are equally important to me as they coexist in my work, Mr Magadini says.
