in Nighttime Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident on the rainy night of June 9, in which a pickup truck driver caused a collision between the truck and a sedan and then sped away from the scene, evading responsibility for the accident.
Police said motorist Tyrone Taitt, 29, of Waldon, N.Y., was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima sedan northward on South Main Street, and was approaching that roadâs southern intersection with Peckâs Lane, when the unknown pickup truck driver, who was traveling westward on Peckâs Lane, pulled out of that street directly in front of the approaching sedan and turned right onto northbound South Main Street, causing the sedan to crash into the truck at about 11:19 pm. Peckâs Lane there is controlled by a stop sign.
The pickup truck driver pulled to the side of the road, but then quickly sped off, reportedly turning left onto Huntingtown Road, police said.
Taitt reported pain in his foot/ankle, but declined medical treatment, police said.
Police said the pickup truck was a black Ford F-250 or F-350 with an extended cab and with a cap over its truck bed. The truck would have some collision damage to its left front quadrant. The truck had Connecticut marker plates.
Police ask anyone with information about the truck driver who fled the accident scene to contact investigating Officer Robert Haas at the police station at 426-5841.
