Many Helped Make Soccer Tourney A Success

To the Editor:

Newtown Soccer Club held its 24th Annual Kick-off Tournament Memorial Day Weekend. Seventy-one teams came together in our town and played a weekend full of soccer.

Many individuals volunteered their time and effort to serve on several Tournament Committees. We would like to thank Lea Attanasio, Sandra Brazo, Laura Brophy, Lisa Carotti, Terry Gould, Ann Kugielsky, Maggie Mahoney, Kim Mather, Peggy O’Neill-Murphy, Liz Raftery, Debbie Rutter and Robin Tolla. Numerous parents volunteered in specific jobs throughout the weekend.

All the referees involved did a tremendous job in keeping the games on schedule and well officiated.

Thanks to Phil Keane and his outstanding T-shirt design.

Many local businesses supported this tournament as well. We thank My Place, Blue Colony Diner, The Ice Cream Shop, Carminuccio’s, Bagel Delight, South Main Pizza, The Firehouse Bar & Restaurant, Newtown General Store, Newtown Deli & Catering, Coach’s Deli, Subway, Dunkin’ Donuts, Drug Center, The Toy Tree, and Associated Refuse.

Games were played at Fairfield Hills, Oakview, Treadwell, Tilson, and the high school fields (including Blue & Gold Stadium). Thank you to Gregg Simon for the use of the high school fields. Thank you to Barbara Kasbarian, Parks & Rec Department, and to Carl, John, and the Rangers for their help in getting the fields ready.

A very special thanks to Jack Weber, Mark Tolla, Pat Barczak, and Jeff Hansen for their dedication and continued support to the sport of soccer and this tournament. Their knowledge and experience was invaluable to us and we greatly appreciate them.

Sincerely,

Valerie Fallon
