Hat City Kids Auditions: Sing On The Green With The Pros This Summer

DANBURY — David Katz, artistic director of Hat City Music Theater, Danbury’s only producer of professional music and theater, has announced auditions for school-age children to join the chorus of Hat City Kids. The chorus will sing with Hat City’s professional cast in “Broadway on the Green”, a free Pops concert of classic Broadway hits planned for Saturday, July 15, at 7 pm on the Danbury Green.

“Broadway on the Green” will be the opening event kicking off Theater...Now, the campaign to create the new Hat Box Theater in downtown Danbury.

Auditions will be on Saturday, June 24, at The Opera Cottage, the office of Hat City Music Theater, 25 Hamilton Drive, between 9 and 10 am. Students should be prepared with a solo song from a musical of their choice, or a patriotic melody or hymn.

Pianist Arnie Gross, former music director of Annie on Broadway, will be the accompanist.

Those auditioning are asked to register ahead of time by calling Hat City Music Theater at 746-2694 or sending an email with their name, age, telephone number, email and address to HatCityMusic@aol. Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis and are open to school-age children of all ages who have had some performing experience.

Call or email for directions and for the short rehearsal schedule.

Hat City Kids is Danbury’s newest chorus. The group made its debut in March in front of sold-out crowds, singing selections from Annie, Oliver! and The Sound of Music. Their performance in Hat City Music Theater’s “Broadway on the Green” is part of CityCenter Danbury’s 2006 Summer Festival of the Arts.
