Handgun Safety Course Planned
NEW MILFORD â The next National Rifle Association Handgun Safety Course will be held on Saturday, July 22.
The one-day program is designed to provide the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for using or owning a handgun. The course, which highlights safety and responsible ownership, instructionally educates anyone who may come in contact with a firearm. The instructor is a veteran police officer in Connecticut.
Successful completion of program is a basic requirement prior to applying for a state handgun permit in Connecticut and most other states. Students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety principals, shooting fundamentals and overview of Connecticut State General Statutes for firearms.
A national written examination and a live-fire range qualification is also conducted at the program.
