Family Festival Being Planned At Audubon Center

SOUTHBURY — The Third Annual Family Festival will be held at the Audubon Center at Bent of the River on Sunday, June 25, from 1 to 5 pm. Activities will include live bird presentations, live reptile and amphibian programs, hayrides, and square dancing in the historic barn.

Admission is $20 per family.

Exhibitors will include EMS with camping equipment demonstrations, New Morning Store with natural foods, solar viewing with the Astronomical Society of New Haven, and displays by Audubon Bird Conservation and Advocacy, the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition.

Kids’ activities will provide hands-on fun and take home items including plaster animal tracks, bird masks, and suet feeders.

Attendees are invited to bring papers they would like to have shredded and have Secure EcoShred shred and recycle them. In the process, everyone will learn how many trees can be saved annually by recycling.

Walks and programs are scheduled as follows: 1:30 pm, live hawk and owls presented by Audubon Sharon members; 2 pm, square dancing in the barn with caller Culver Griffin; 2:30, wet and wild fun on a River Romp; 3 pm, live reptiles and amphibians by staff from The Connecticut Children’s Museum; 4 pm, bird banding demonstrations; and 4:15, more square dancing with Mr Griffin.

Located at 185 East Flat Hill Road in the South Britain section of Southbury (off I-84 Exit 14), the Audubon Center at Bent of the River is a 700-acre nature education center dedicated to the conservation of birds, other wildlife, and their habitats by engaging the community and inspiring a lifelong appreciation of nature.
