Robert A. Roeder

Robert A. Roeder, 71, of Newtown, died June 12, in his home, surrounded by family. He was born May 12, 1941, in Evansville, Ind.

Mr Roeder received his bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and his master’s at Pace University. He began working as an accountant in 1968 at Arthur Andersen in Indianapolis, where he met the love of his life, Martha, to whom he was married for 42 years. His subsequent professional ventures at Union Carbide took his family around the globe. He concluded his career in the United States with OSi Specialties, Inc.

Mr Roeder was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed running, golfing, fishing, and card games. He was a passionate sports fan who was happy to watch everything from NASCAR to bass fishing to UConn women’s basketball (a team he followed religiously).

Countless friends and family will miss him, but most especially by his wife, his son Matt, and his daughter Melanie, who remember him for his quick wit, generosity, and utter devotion to those he loved. He is also survived by his sister Dottie Hotz and her husband Ron of Indianapolis.

Deepest gratitude to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut for their wonderful care during his long illness.

There will be no funeral services. Please toast his life, as he would have wanted — with some big band music and a glass of Kir Royale.

The Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, is assisting the family.
