Many Supported Hospice

At Annual Breakfast

To the Editor:

On June 6, Newtown’s high octane community spirit prevailed once again, packing The Waterview with more than 450 generous, compassionate hearts who raised $25,000 to support families facing advanced illness and help them rebuild their lives after loss.

Thank you all for joining The 23rd Annual Newtown Chapter Breakfast for Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western CT. As our beloved volunteers, donors and guests, your kindness brings hope and peace of mind to 1,200 people annually with hospice and palliative care as well as through our award-winning bereavement programs.

We are grateful to Gail Honychurch, our speaker that morning and a recently honored volunteer at our Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families. Gail is a quiet community hero who forges bonds of communication and understanding to help families who have lost a child embrace hope through the nurturing support that surrounds them at Healing Hearts.

My warmest thanks to the organizational gurus of the Newtown Chapter who made this beautiful event possible: Co-Chairs Marg Studley and Marie Sturdevant along with chapter members Marilyn Alexander, Ellyn Gehrett, Colleen Honan, Janet Hovias, Judy Lecko, Maureen Crick Owen, Linda Trentacosta, and Laurie Wrabel, as well as our host John Royce and his staff at The Waterview who partner with the chapter as benefactors and volunteers to make the breakfast an elegant celebration of Newtown’s commitment to our agency’s patients and families.

On behalf of the staff and volunteers of Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western CT, our thanks to this heart-warming community of generous families, businesses and agencies, including the breakfast’s four corporate sponsors: Newtown Savings Bank, Newtown Lions Club, TR Paul, and Union Savings Bank. For 23 years your compassionate spirit has transformed lives in our community — we are deeply grateful to you!
